What are the exchange points?
You need to accumulate some exchange points (the more the better), so other users could rate your photos. All three categories of "Hot or Not" participate in the point exchange. A various number of photos is viewed in different categories. Most users want to see photos of females than photos of males, but males vote more intensively, therefore, males have more exchange points.

The earned points are the exchange points that you get from voting for other people's photo. The redeemed points are the exchange points that are taken from your total exchange points when somebody votes for your photos. The values of earned and redeemed points for both genders are calculated every day based on relation between earned points and viewings. The values for each "Hot or Not" category are presented in the statistics table (each category is given its own color).

Such a system keeps the categories balanced. The situation when some categories accumulate to much unredeemable points is virtually impossible. If there are not enough viewings per category then this category has higher values of exchange points than other category with more viewings.
That's why male general category has a considerably higher point value than female erotic category does.

Each viewing of a male's photo from general male category of "Hot or Not" redeems numerous points from him reducing his number of total exchanged points.
Thus, users are encouraged to vote for photos of males (or any photos that are in the categories with high point value), because it will allow them to earn more points

"Hot or Not" statistics is updated every day. Point values are recalculated based on number of viewing in each category. New point values are valid throughout a day until a new recount.

If you are logged in, in the upper right corner of the "Hot or Not" you will see the information about how many exchange points you have accumulated today and your total number exchange points. Any time somebody rates your photos, your total number exchange points decreases by the corresponding point value.

What is Photo Priority?
Your earned exchange points are shared between all your photos competing in the "Hot or Not" game.
When you change a photo's status to Competing in "Hot or Not" in the Photo manager, you will see "Photo Priority" field next to it.

A number in this field corresponds to a share of your earned exchange points that each one of your photos receives. For example, if you have 100 earned exchange points and two photos competing in "Hot or Not", and you set 5 as the "Photo Priority" for both of them, then each photo gets 50 exchange points.

The photos will get the same number of points in the case if you put 1 or 10 in the "Photo Priority" fields for both of them. However, if you set one photo's priority to 2, and the other's to 4, then the photos will get 20 and 80 point accordingly.

Do not forget that exchange points are not the number of votes your photo receives. The value of exchange points for each category is calculated every day. The current values are listed in the "Hot or Not" statistics.

What are Photo Status and Categories?
A photo has one of the following statuses:
- Doesn't compete in "Hot or Not" (by default)
- Competes in "Hot or Not"
- Hidden
- Audited (moderators audit the photo)
- Forbidden (cannot compete in "Hot or Not")

Every photo competes in one of the "Hot or Not" category. You can check all categories on the "Hot or Not" game's page. A category for each photo is chosen by the photo's owner, but if other users complain, then moderators can change the photo's category.

You can set photo status and HoN categories for your pics in the Photo manager.

What is direct link voting?
Direct link voting (when a user votes for a photo by clicking on the link in the photo's owner's profile, in the Rating Top, etc) is prohibited.

The reason is that many users complain that as soon as their photo gets to the Rating Top it receives a lot of low grades. Obviously enough, these low grades are given by dishonest users who want to be in the Tops themselves. Indeed they have sunk so low in their shamelessness that they even register several logins just to give low grades to other users, and promote their own photos to the top positions in the tops.
That's why, to keep our ratings fair, only "accidental" votes are accepted.

In the near future we plan to provide the option to vote for other photos of a user whose photo you "accidentally" voted for.

Not all of my grades are counted?
To protect photo ratings from cheating, ratings count only grades from registered users. Voting via direct links is also not counted. A photo can be rated only when it is showed unintentionally.

There is a special "No Jerks!" system in the "Hot or Not" game. "Jerks" are the users who consistently give low grades to every photo they rate. If a user gives 1-3 to the majority of all rated photos, his or her grades will not be counted.
To encourage you to give higher grades, grading photos with 1-2-3 will not earn you any exchange points, but your grade will be counted to the graded photo's rating. It is true, unless the system regards you as a "jerk" ;)

Every rated photo has the "Male Rating" and "Female Rating", which are composed from the grades given by both sexes accordingly.

Female "Hot or Not" Tops are based on votes of males. Male "Hot or Not" Tops are composed based on votes of females.
For a photo to be eligible for Tops, the photo's owner has to receive no less than 25 votes for this photo from the users of the opposite sex. To make "Hot or Not" Tops more dynamic and up to date, photos that did not receive grades for past week do not get in the Tops.

Why was my photo prohibited from competing in the "Hot or Not" game?
You can upload any pic you want (if it meets our site rules), but make sure you put it in the right category.

Personal photos. Only your personal photos are allowed in this category. To compete in Hot or Not it should be of a good quality.
Photos of puppies, kittens, your childhood photos should be in the Funny stuff category.
If you want to post a pic of your car/bike/house etc. add it to the Cool stuff.
Want to have a pic of your favorite celebrity in your profile? Then add it to the Celebrity category.
Wanna show others your hot body? Make sure it`s in the Erotic stuff.
And your friends pics and photos of your match go to the Couples and Friends categories.

To compete in the game your pics should be of a good quality. Moderators can also ban your photo if you put it in the wrong category. If you cannot decide on the category, the photo will be banned. A photo may not be allowed to compete if a moderator decides that it is not your photo (a celebrity photo, a photo copied from another website, etc)

Obviously, moderators are only human and can make mistakes. Moderators view thousands of photos (new photos, complains about photos, complains about categories) and they cannot respond to your complaints about wrongful (in your opinion) ban of one particular photo. So, if your photo is banned, don't be disgruntled. It's life. Anyway, the photo stays in your profile and will be viewable to everybody.
