­Previously on Raising Hope Season 2 Episode 19 "Hogging All The Glory", When attention-seeking Sarah Louise announces her plans to run for another term as chairperson of the Natesville church group, Burt decides to run against her. To test Burt's ability to handle a community task, Sarah Louise assigns him pig-sitting duties for a blind church member. But when the guide pig accidentally becomes family dinner, Burt must find and train a replacement pig before Sarah Louise finds out and ruins his chances of being elected.

­Raising Hope is a television comedy program first aired on September 21, 2010, on Fox. The series airs on Tuesdays at 9:30 pm. On January 10, 2011, Fox renewed Raising Hope for a second season, which premiered on September 20, 2011.

­Following its first season, the show received two nominations at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards. Martha Plimpton was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and Cloris Leachman was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. Plimpton also won the 2011 Satellite Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series.

­At 23 years old, Jimmy Chance is going nowhere in life. He skims pools for a living, parties every night and still lives at home with his family, including his Maw Maw; his mother, Virginia; his father, Burt; and his cousin, Mike. Jimmy's life takes a drastic turn when a chance romantic encounter with Lucy goes awry once he discovers she is a wanted felon. Months later, when Jimmy pays a visit to the local prison, he discovers Lucy gave birth to their baby, who he is now charged with raising. At home with his new daughter, Jimmy's family is less than enthusiastic about a new addition to the household.

­His parents, who had him when they were 15, never knew anything about raising a child and have no interest in trying again. If Jimmy can work up the nerve to ask her out on a date, he might get some help from Sabrina, a sardonic checkout clerk he met at the supermarket. Cousin Mike is only concerned about how the baby is going to affect their social life, and out-of-touch Maw Maw is no help either. But Jimmy is determined to take care of his baby - whom Virginia thinks they should name HOPE. With very few useful skills but their hearts in the right place, will the Chance family be successful when they step into the unpredictable and immensely challenging world of parenting?

­In early spring 2010, reports stated that Cloris Leachman would portray Jimmy's great-grandmother, Maw Maw. In March, Fox decided to recast two roles from the pilot. Shannon Woodward replaced Olesya Rulin as Sabrina, Jimmy's new love interest. Also recast was the role of Jimmy's cousin, and the role reverted back to male with the addition of Skyler Stone as Mike. With this, Kate Micucci's role changed from Jimmy's cousin to become Shelly, the cousin of his love interest Sabrina.

­Fox green-lit the pilot to series with an order in mid-May 2010. On May 17, 2010, Fox announced at the upfront presentation that the series, with the new title Raising Hope, was included in its 2010-11 television schedule and set for a fall 2010 premiere.

­On October 6, Fox ordered 9 more episodes of the first season, bringing the first season to 22 episodes. It was the first full-season pickup of the 2010-2011 primetime television schedule. On January 10, 2011, Fox renewed Raising Hope for a second season.
